J’Meria and Melanie’s Stories

Meet J’Meria and Melanie, two of the brightest and biggest smilers Children of The Salvation Army Memphis Camp Hope. Both girls love the water slide bounce houses and lunch! For the entire summer, these young ladies and 70 or so other campers begin their days singing and end their days with hugs, laughter and strong friendships. Camp gives children in tough situations an opportunity to play, learn and thrive.

Camp Hope was established to meet the needs of the families in residence at the Purdue Center when other local government summer programs in the area closed.

The program provides to the Children of The Salvation Army Memphis the essential safe space and resources to stand in the gap of summer learning loss – All while having a blast with:

  • Field trips,
  • Indoor/outdoor activities,
  • STEM sessions,
  • Arts and Crafts, and
  • Fun parties.

Camp Hope works in support of the mothers in residence at the Purdue Center. With two signature programs for women and children; The Salvation Army is providing space and time for those families who are working towards sobriety and stability and others that are working toward education and long-term sustainable living.

Camp Hope forges friendships and new lives for the children and families at the Purdue Center of Hope.
